Brats Brothers

With Carmageddon II closing up the 405, my friends and I decided to go on some adventures within the Valley yesterday. After going on a short hike on the Betty B. Dearing mountain trail and spending a good amount of time sitting and talking at Balboa Park, Harold, Astrid, Liz, and I wound up going to eat at this place called Brats Brothers with Rona and her friend Katie.

Brats Brothers is a gourmet sausage grill that features a lot of different beer and bratwurst options. Astrid had been there once before and tried some of the more exotic sausages, such as the Outback Roo (made of kangaroo meat) and the Wild West (made from buffalo), so she recommended that we go and try it out. I’ve been adventurous and had exotic sausages with rabbit and rattlesnake at Wurstkuche, but this time, I just opted for the French, which was comprised of chicken, apple, and cinnamon. During the night we came, they had run out of a few of the exotic sausages anyway, including the Outback Roo. The French has a sort of sweet, but not too sweet flavor and I really liked it. We also ordered sides of Bavarian tater tots and cheese spaetzle that was a good complement to our meals.

The decorations to match the restaurant with its theme were really cool. Harold came back from the bathroom talking about how interesting the urinal was because it looked like a beer keg so we all went to look. It really was awesome. There were also other fun decorations like a fan that had its blades in the shape of sausages. Unfortunately, we didn’t really get the full effect since we were sitting outside, but it was still nice. Our waitress was funny and a self-proclaimed bitch who made snarky comments making fun of us and still somehow came off as likeable. It was definitely a fun experience.

Brats Brothers was really close to the school that I worked at during Winter Break last year and I can’t believe I never noticed it. There’s so many cool places to eat in the Valley that I still have not discovered yet!
