About Me

Hey there! Thanks for coming across my “about me” page!

I guess I should start off by introducing myself. My name is Alvin-Christian, though most people just call me Alvin, I’m Filipino, and I live in Van Nuys, the heart of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. I decided to start writing again because it has always been a way for me to gather my thoughts and these posts help me to remember the past and how I have grown throughout the years. I started with xanga during my high school days and now, I have found myself here.

In June of 2011, I graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Global Studies and a minor in Education. I wanted to combine a passion for learning about the world with educating others. As part of the major, we were required to study abroad as part of a global studies program. I ended up spending around six weeks in Shanghai and fell in love with the city. The experience of living abroad for over the month while learning about globalization helped my passion grow.

Most of my posts here either cover really interesting topics in globalization which I love to talk about or adventures that I am taking now or have taken in the past. Sometimes, I reflect on past excursions in China, but I also like to explore my home city of Los Angeles and its surroundings. I’ve grown up here for all of my life and there is still so much that I haven’t seen or done.

Those are pretty much the basics about me, and I think you learn much more by reading my posts. Of course, you can also ask if you have any questions. If you are new to my blog, I’d recommend starting out with “Love, Life, and Globalization” and “An Introduction“.

Thanks again for dropping by and I hope you come back regularly!

  1. Hello Sir! I really like your blog, and it’s kinda help me with my research, but can I interview you about your thought or perspective about the globalization of kpop??? Please?

    • Hello! I’m glad that you find the blog interesting! I actually don’t know too much about the globalization of KPop, though I know that its presence has grown significantly within the past few years. Several of my friends love listening to KPop groups and artists and even my mom has started to spend a lot of her time online listening to KPop.

I think that YouTube definitely helped showcase KPop to a wider audience all over the globe, especially in the case of Psy’s Gangnam Style. Like I said, I am not really an expert on the subject but I can try to help you out as best as I can!

  2. Wow……I really loved your 5 part Alaska blog. I did all of the things you did except the kayak. The lake was frozen solid when I was there. Thank you for the awesome armchair trip, it brought back so many great memories.

    • Thank you so much for reading and leaving a message! Alaska was amazing and I would love to go back for a longer trip, especially to visit Denali National Park and see the aurora borealis. I’m glad that the series brought back good memories for you, as it does the same for me!

  3. Denali was incredible. The grizzled and moose were so huge…..memories of a lifetime and climbing the trails on Denali were a bucket list check off. The Auroras…omg……you don’t need to pay to see them but you really need to take a ride away from the city lights. And if you like photography and are going to Alaska in the winter for the Auroras I suggest photographing some snowflakes…….lol….I’ll stop…..can you tell I love Alaska. One more thing…..the Alaska Geocaching Society are an incredible group of people. They threw me a flash mob in December at -36 degrees. Yup that’s 36 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
    Safe travels……..
